Permanent Representative of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Visits ISA Secretary-General

Madam Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), Ms. Leticia Carvalho, received a courtesy visit from H.E. Ambassador Deryck L. Murray, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the ISA on January 15, 2025.
Madam Secretary-General, in welcoming Permanent Representative Murray and Ms. Amanda Fraser, Counselor, indicated that this was her first official meeting since assuming her position on January 1, 2025.
The Permanent Representative congratulated Madam Secretary-General Carvalho on officially assuming the position of Secretary-General of the ISA and reiterated Trinidad and Tobago’s continued support for the work of ISA. He elaborated that: “As a small island country, Trinidad and Tobago is committed to maintaining the sanctity of the international seabed Area, supporting the concepts of the Area and the ISA.”
Madam Secretary-General expressed her appreciation for the continued support of Trinidad and Tobago for the work of the ISA, “The ISA is a gravity center of current global ocean governance. With collective efforts, its full potential is to be unleashed. The full participation of all Members, including developing countries, is key to developing its full capacity.”
The Secretary-General and the Permanent Representative also exchanged ideas on the upcoming 30th Session of the ISA, engagement with stakeholders, and science-based and knowledge-driven decision-making processes.
